For a few seconds I couldn’t figure out why, and then a part of me remembered that this is the song that plays in 10 Things I Hate About You when Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger make-out while playing paint ball.

When I was 12, that scene was pretty much the definition of romantic. Years later, I can see that it was really just another silly, unrealistic scene in a teen romantic-comedy. But it doesn’t matter. It turns out that that 12 year-old definition of romance never completely goes away.

And, I don’t know about you, but I think that’s actually pretty great.

Where The Hell is Matt's Girlfriend?

Where The Hell is Matt's Girlfriend?:
rickyv:

The new Liv Tyler scary scary scary movie about middle-of-the-night random killers in masks? You must have seen the ads. They are everywhere. I went to see Baby Mama and they played the preview. I was watching The Office reruns and they played the preview. I don’t exactly know who “they” are, but they should know that if I’m watching Baby Mama or The Office that I’m not interested in having the shit scared out of me.

And, yeah, yeah, I know it’s a movie and not real life, but I still find it terrifying. Even Law and Order gives me the heebie-jeebies.

The worst part is that I find it almost impossible to erase scary images from my mind. I saw The Exorcist when I was 8 and made it to the part when the girl’s head spins around when I had to get up and leave and not have a good night’s sleep for 3 days/ever again. Those twins from The Shining. The scary statues of children that come to life in the more obscure and more embarrassing (not just for myself, but for Owen Wilson and Catherine Zeta-Jones as well) The Haunting. The part in the BBC version of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, where the White Witch and her disgusting minions are killing Aslan.

These are images that will not disappear from my mind. They just seep into my brain and jump out at exactly the moment I’m about to fall asleep.

As you can tell by the short and eclectic mix of images that horrify me, I make a habit of meticulously avoiding scary movies/TV shows/people. So I hope those bastards in charge of preview distribution are proud of themselves. They just snuck in another image.

Just trying something out...

Just trying something out...:
I started a tumblr that I plan to devote entirely to to do lists. It’s a great song and I’m in the mood to hear it again.

“Late at night, cloudy light will creep over my old house.
And the chair, where I once sat, someone new is there, and he’ll stare at that wall, and we’re all
Parts of an alphabet
Spell new words in new spots we’re at.

And the big blue boat drifts around in the dark.
When you feel like a jerk does it make you confused?
Like how could you become as awesome as you are and still feel like a loser?
When you feel ugly and petty
All quirked and unsteady
Just try not to forget there’s so many people who’ve liked you.
I hope that the art school enjoys your big drawing of ruins.
We’ve all got good things to do and it’s good when we do them.

From Austin to Brooklyn,
They’re all smart and good lookin’.
We’re all parts of an alphabet,
Spell new words with new folks we met.

And the big blue boat drifts around in the dark.
And the big blue boat drifts around in the dark.
And they say that we’ll drift for a while till we die and the sun it’s a spiral it’s a combination lock.
And I’m just hoping that I’ll get it all in and that these joys and frustrations are just turns in the combination.”

Pigeons Plus

In case you’re new to my blog, I moved recently. If you’re not new and you’re sick of reading about my big move, well, screw you. Practically nothing ever changes in my life, so when something does change, I’m going to talk about it for a goddamn long time. (Like this new Diet Coke Plus, oh man.)

So, here’s something I may not have mentioned yet (but maybe I have and am just too lazy to go back and read old posts): my new apartment has really wide window ledges on the outside of the building, so pigeons, tons and tons of pigeons, like to congregate outside my windows. At first this kind of disturbed me. Pigeons and I don’t get along. No, really. When I was 10 I had to stop going to the Bronx Zoo because every time I went, a pigeon would take a crap on my head. I think every zookeeper between 1992 and 1997 told me that pigeon “droppings” were good luck, but even at 7 years old I knew that you couldn’t be lucky if you’d just been shat on.

So, you can imagine my horror upon realizing that I would be living so close to a hopping pigeon hangout. But here’s why I’m a little excited about it: I may finally get to see a baby pigeon. Have you ever seen a baby pigeon? I sure as hell haven’t. No one I know has either. They must be out there though, and I will try my darndest to catch a glimpse of those little bastards. And then I’ll probably talk about it for the rest of my life.

Now, let’s get back to the matter of Diet Coke Plus. It’s soda with freaking vitamins and minerals in it! Maybe now I’ll finally get enough nutrients to not be sick 80% of the year.

EDIT: Google imaging is cheating. And you know the rules; cheating is only allowed when playing games or if it will get you a better grade or a better significant other. Google imaging “baby pigeon,” psh, have a little dignity.

“Be My Baby” by the Ronettes

“Be My Baby” by the Ronettes

According to weather.com, today should be the perfect day.
1. The floors of my new apartment are sort of slanted, so when I’m in my bedroom I feel like I’m on a boat.

2. My sister hired this trio of Philippino guys with a truck whom she found on Craigslist to move our heavy furniture because we’re girls and can’t lift an armoire. We just can’t. My sister, who is practically an apartment nomad (but who never learned to pack light), has had success with Craigslist movers in the past, so we were surprised by the incompetence of “Joe” and his Spanish-speaking (why?) crew.
They broke a lot of hard-to-break furniture and took 5 hours to move our stuff 12 blocks. There was one particular guy with long hair who, the whole day, would only pick up the light chairs and lamps. Now, I get that moving heavy stuff is hard. I do. That’s why I don’t offer to move stuff for a living. But this wimp did. So, naturally, my sister would come up behind him carrying heavy bookshelves and tables saying, “You move like a girl!”
This sounds mean, but he didn’t speak English anyway—except that he, quite appropriately, kept singing, “There’s something in the way she moves…” while holding a wicker chair—and he really did move like a girl.

Also, sitting around in the moving truck was a 10 month-old baby named Sophia.

I Photoshopped Something!

It’s housing lottery season here at Columbia. That’s when everyone is randomly assigned a number and, starting from 1, that is the order in which they get to pick their dorm rooms for next year. This random process exists because of the openly acknowledged fact that most campus housing sucks. Exciting! While I don’t participate in this lottery (because I have a modicum of pride), I find the idea that there is someone walking around campus with #1 in the lottery to be hilarious. Someone has to have it though. Unless the whole process is a sham. Whoa. Just blew my mind.

Anyway, check out my mad/adequate photoshop skillz.

Kelly Taylor Returns to 90210

Kelly Taylor Returns to 90210: Oh my god.
